A Fun, Therapeutic Journey into Creativity
What Is Art Coaching?
Art Coaching is a unique, collaborative practice that blends creative expression with therapeutic techniques. It’s not just about producing art; it’s about tapping into your child's inner world, expressing emotions in a safe, supportive environment, discovering new ways to see and experience life. With a playful yet professional approach, art coaching helps your child connect with themselves, learn valuable life skills, and build confidence—one brushstroke at a time. At the Kids Counsellor Art Coaching with Ava is a stand alone activity. It is used as an expressive outlet and helps children find a way to express their feelings, thoughts and emotions in a way that is not confronting and is the best fit for them!
Who Is Art Coaching For?
Our art coaching program is designed to welcome everyone—from tiny hands to emerging tween hearts. It is great for kids going through a tough time who might benefit from a way to release their emotions. It is also fantastic for kids who haven't yet found their Mojo in Sport or other hobbies and after school activities - Art might just be "their thing".We provide tailored sessions that cater specifically to children and Tweens as well as dynamic small group sessions and booking for groups of 2-4 children for siblings friends or parent/children sessions (booked in together).

Combine materials and artistic methods to break free of conventional limits and create something uniquely yours. -
Movement and Performance:
Incorporate somatic and sensory movement, drama, or role-playing to engage your body and mind, releasing pent-up emotions in a fun, dynamic way some examples of this exploration can include mask making, making puppets, role-play, shadow theatre or incorporating tactile materials— fabric, or objects into the sensory experience. -

How Is Art Coaching Neuro-Affirming and Trauma Informed?
Art coaching is all about honouring the beautiful diversity of the human mind:
Celebrating Neuro-diversity:
We recognize that everyone processes emotions and ideas differently. Our sessions are tailored to work with your unique neurological profile, ensuring you feel understood and supported.
Strength-Based Approach:
Instead of focusing on challenges, we highlight your innate creative strengths. This positive, affirming method helps children find their voice through art, build a sense of self, strengthen resilience and expand their confidence and self-worth. It is a safe space to be who they are and release their authentic selves.
Adaptive Creative Techniques:
With a wide range of artistic modalities, you’re free to choose the methods that resonate most with your individual way of processing the world.
A Safe Space for Experimentation:
Here, every idea is welcome. Our non-judgmental environment encourages you to experiment and express yourself authentically, without pressure to meet any “artistic standard.”
Meeting Sensory Needs:
We understand the need for regulation and have the use of a sensory space (for when we aren't covered in paint!). The use of dough, clay and other tactile mediums for sensory seekers as well as offering differing techniques for sensory avoiders. If your child doesn't like the sound or feel of chalk, clay or the scratch of pencil on paper - Ava will help your child explore a way to express themselves through art ensuring it is an enjoyable sensory experience. And children can take as many movement or regulation breaks as they need during a session. This is a safe exploration space for them to enjoy!
Trauma Informed:
Trauma-informed art coaching means that we aim to create a safe, supportive space where every splash of colour or creative twist is tailored to honour individual experiences. By gently inviting expression at one’s own pace, it offers a playful yet secure way to explore feelings, build trust, and empower personal growth—all while keeping the focus on creativity and connection. Children are invited to explore yet are never pushed toward an area they aren't fully comfortable with.
*(For more focused Trauma Trained Therapy we suggest you book in for counselling sessions where we can use art and craft as part of you or your child's healing journey )

About Ava
Your Kids Art Coach

Hi there, I’m Ava! I’m an energetic and bubly art coach with a passion for working with kids of all ages. I’ve spent years supporting children in the school environment, and I love helping little one’s build confidence, navigate their world with joy and unlock their creative potential. When I’m not working, you’ll find me running, making art, or practicing Auslan - a language I’m excited to be learning! As an Autistic individual, I bring a unique perspective to my work, allowing me to connect deeply with children who have diverse needs. I have developed strong skills in providing individualised support for Autistic Kids, ADHD kids, Children with PTSD, Executive Functioning delays, ODD and children with a PDA profile. And as an SLSO at schools I have a unique understanding of how to support children in their educational journey. What I love about Art Coaching is being able to give children the chance express themselves, the freedom to be able to create for the enjoyment and process without focussing wholly on the end result. I also enjoy teaching different art techniques and for children to be able to try new mediums which help build confidence and resilience as they learn to accept themselves and their art as they grow and bloom!I also enjoy teaching different art techniques and for children to be able to try new mediums which help build confidence and resilience as they learn to accept themselves and their art as they grow and bloom!I am especially passionate about working with primary school-aged kids and their families, offering neuro-affirming, trauma informed, child-centred art coaching sessions for each child’s unique needs and to help them find the creativity within them that sparks the most joy and helps them process their feelings.
